How do I add shares outstanding?

Seraf enables you to track your % ownership in portfolio companies by recording key data points: the number of company shares outstanding and the number of shares owned by you.

To enter the number of Shares Outstanding in a portfolio company:

  • Go to Portfolio Management and select the tab for Companies.
  • Create a new company by selecting the button for “Add Company” or edit an existing company record by selecting the pencil icon in the appropriate row.
  • In the section for Basic Information, find the box for Shares Outstanding and enter the number of shares outstanding from the most recent company cap table.
  • Save your record by scrolling to the end of the company page and selecting “Save”.

You can find your percentage ownership, or share of the company, by visiting the analysis section of your Seraf account. To access it, select Portfolio Analysis from the sidebar and then select the tab for Portfolio. In the third chart, Investment Valuations, you will find your % of Total, which refers to the number of shares you own as a percentage of the total number of shares outstanding for each company in which you are a shareholder.

Note that in order for the % of Total column to calculate, you must enter the number of Shares Outstanding for each company as well as the number of Shares for each stock-related transaction.
